Its name comes from the Nahuatl zacatl = straw or grass and tlan = place. Therefore, Zacatlán means Place abounding in grass.
It is famous for being one of the main apple producing centers in the country, which is why it is also known as Zacatlán of Apples. Since 2011 it is part of the Federal Magic Towns program, the number 39 to receive this title and second in the state of Puebla.
Processed fruit occupies an important place in the form of cider, jams, preserves, sweets and wines quince, plum, dates, coconut, walnut, peach and blueberry, and the famous cheese bread.
