San Luis Potosi, the Capital of the state with the same name, is located at 363 km north-northwest of Mexico City. It has an altitude of 1,860 meters. It is also part of the macro region "El Bajio" Its name derives from the title to St. Louis, King of France (Louis IX of France), his patron saint, and referring to the rich mines of Potosí region of Bolivia.
It was founded in the late sixteenth century and during the viceroyalty of New Spain; it was considered as one of the most important centers in the mining, agriculture, livestock, commercial, cultural, religious, political, and administrative areas.
It’s baroque, neoclassical, and eclectic architecture allows it to be candidate to be listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
