Puebla Colonial Cities

The state of Puebla has been really importance in the history of Mexico. There were found the oldest remains of corn and potatoes in the region of Tehuacán; it was the seat of important pre-Hispanic cities such as Cantona and Cholula.

During the colonial era, the city of Puebla became the second largest city in New Spain, thanks to its strategic location between Mexico City and the port of Veracruz.

In the late nineteenth century, the state was one of the first to industrialize, with the introduction of power looms that favored the development of the textile industry.

It is part of the physiographic province of the Neo volcanic Axis. The city of Puebla is surrounded surround by some of the most important volcanoes in the country, such as Popocatepetl and Iztaccíhuatl.

In reason of its history (like the beginning of the Revolution or the battle of May 5 against Legionnaires, among others), its architecture, industry (the factories of Talavera or Volks Wagen factory), its Beauty (buildings, archaeological sites, landscapes, parks ...), traditions and handicrafts, is the 4th largest city in the country.
