Calakmul: This reserve is a protected area that was declared a “Biosphere Reserve” by UNESCO in 1989. Here we also find the Mayan ruins of Calakmul and other sites of the same culture.
The climate is warm, with low annual temperature fluctuations, and rainfall of about 750 mm. It is a rainforest region that has high biological diversity. They have recorded 358 species of birds, 75 of reptiles, 18 amphibians, 31 fish, about 380 butterflies and 86 mammals, among which the jaguar is the most important with one of the largest populations of America.
